Hi! Here's the scoop on how to request funeral home records in Keokuk: Greaves Mortuary 1212 Concert St. Keokuk, IA 52632 (319)524-2455 Records available from 1800s to present. Funeral home only has Greaves Mortuary records. You can request records by phone or in writing at no cost, provided the list of names is not too extensive. The man I talked to emphasized giving as much detail as possible such as name, date of death, if female both married and maiden names to help with the search. However, you don't need all of it to request (though obviously name and rough time frame of death will be necessary) DeJong's Funeral Home Inc. 917 Blondeau St. Keokuk, IA 52632 (319)524-2340 Records available from 1912 - present. Funeral homes involved: Hawkes-Holbrook 1912 - 1917, Pearson-Holbrook 1917 - 1931, Brunat 1926 - 1940, Pearson-Schmidt 1932 - 1944, DeJong's 1940s - present. You can request records by phone or in writing at no cost, provided the list of names is not too extensive. Vigen Memorial Home 1328 Concert St. Keokuk, IA 52632 (319)524-3377 Records available from 1929 - present. Funeral home opened in 1929 as Cunningham then sometime after that they became Schmidt-Vigen and they are now Vigen. You can request info by phone or mail at no cost, again provided the search is not too extensive. I do have to say that all of the people I talked to at the funeral homes were very nice and very helpful. They also told me that records prior to 1910 were probably line records consisting of name, date of death and place of burial. From 1910 to the 1970s, the record probably consists of a worksheet. After the 1970s, the records are essentially files. So if you have a lot of funeral records to request for the 1970s or after, you might want to space out your requests so you don't get charged and you don't drive the people at the funeral homes nuts. If you have any questions, please let me know. Kara
