Madison, Lee County (Taken from Evening Democrat7/16/43) Funeral services for George Almendinger, 66, 613-1/2 Avenue G, who died Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe Hospital will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Clements chapel with the Rev. C. F. Doss assisted by the Rev. Joseph T. Anderson, officiating. Burial will in in Oakland cemetery. He was born November 1, 1876, in Franklin, Iowa, and had lived in Fort Madison since he was three years old. He was a machinist at the Santa Fe shops here for 17 years until blindness forced his retirement on a pension in 1912. He had been in ill health the last three years. On December 19, 1906, he was married in Fort Madison to Mabel R. Thomas, who survives. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical church and of the M.W.A. In addition to his widow, survivors include a brother Edward of Whittier, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Caroline Shreve, Beverly Hills, Calif. and a number of other relatives. A brother, Julius Almendinger, died May 22, 1943.
