Hello everyone! Thanks so much for your support. So far I've received almost 50 e-mails regarding Ancestry.com and their business practices since yesterday. Only 2 defended the company. It seems more of us has had trouble with Ancestry than not! I did call my credit card company, but I can't file a formal complaint with them for 2 weeks. According to their merchant's contract, they have to allow Ancestry that much time to issue a credit. If Ancestry does not comply, then I file a complaint and dispute the charges. I have also called Ancestry, and I spoke with a supervisor, and (get this) he said it because it was a malfunction in their e-mail notification that they would issue a credit (as if I would accept anything less!). So we shall see. Someone sent me a copy of the Terms of Agreement (I thank you), and Ancesty screwed up all the way around. They violated their own terms! According to the agreement, they were supposed to notify me by e-mail FIFTEEN days before my renewal date. My subscription ended April 5. The e-mail from them was sent April 6! Even the phone call I received was not 15 days prior to the renewal date. I got that call the last week in March. And I even asked that man why he needed me to give him my card number when he should have had it in my file. (I believe that whole deal was a scam to start with!) I've been looking in my law books for anything regarding automatic renewals in cyber contracts but it has not yet been challenged, apparantly. I plan to consult with my Business Law professor (who is also an attorney) and find out what is right and what is not. I'm even considering this over until I get my credit issued, and that hasn't happened yet. Thanks again for all your encouraging words. The "little folks" must stick together against the overpowering, money-hungry corporations! :) Jo
I tried to acccess some things in Ancestry the other day only to be advised that my rights could not be found. I have not received any kind of notification about my contract expiring. Good luck on getting your money back.
