I understand it is no longer in print. I am told that the book has pictures and articles about some of my Lee Co. ancestors, including William and John "Sherm" Sherman Winters. Does anyone know of a copy available for purchase? Mr. Sloat also wrote a book on the History of Lee County which I would also like to have. > Susan > > > ==== IALEE Mailing List ==== > > > > ============================== > Search more than 150 million free records at RootsWeb! > http://searches.rootsweb.com/ >

    3. Listers, Mary and N. Staley, I have a big favor to ask. I am researching the Lee County GERBOTH family. They are rather a unique family in that there are less than a hundred of this surname in the US. Three Gerboth families arrived at three different times in the mid to late 1800's. Our gg-grandfather was Freidrich (Fredrick) Gerboth arriving in 1849 and eventually settled in Montrose Iowa. He and his wife are listed in the 1910 Census. He was a steamboat engineer on the ADAM HEINE Steamship during the civil war. I have consulted many steamboat websites but have not been able to find any info about this ship. I would appreciate some research help by anyone going to Keokuk or Montrose that would be willing to look at any indexes for the GERBOTH name and especially something on this steamship and the role it played during the war. My favor is, if you will tuck this email in with your research papers and do a quick look for this name while you are there I would be more than happy to reimburse any expenses for any anformation you can find on this family. I wouldn't even ask this favor if this were a common name having 100's of listings. Thank you so very much. 3. Certainly I can look for you. Do you have the information from 'Biographical Review Lee County, Iowa' 1905 On Henry C. Gerboth? 'Mr. Gerboth's experience as an engineer has been extremely varied, and included during the Civil War considerable work on transport boats, he also acting as engineer of the dispatch boat, "Adam Heine," which was in the service of General Grant, at Millikin's Bend, near Vicksburg, from which the general viewed the maneuvers of the army and fleet.' Does this help?
