Norma, I am not researching this family, however, I have an obit from the Montrose Journal, Montrose, Iowa 1919. Thursday, November 20, 1919 Henry C. Gerboth Passes To The World Of Light Mr. Henry C. Gerboth passed away at his home last Monday night. He was born in Sexony Germany in 1837. He came to this country with his parents when he was six years old and settled in Pennsylvania. When he was eighteen years old he came down the Ohio River and up the Mississippi. This was the beginning of his career as steamboat engineer, at which work he spent the grater part of his active life. He was for several years, engineer for the big saw-mill here. His experiences on the river included; during the civil war, considerable work on transport boats. He acted as engineer on the Adam Heine which was in the service of General Grant and from which he directed maneuvers of the army and navy. Mr. Gerboth was married to Miss Harriet Patterson. To this union were born three sons, two of whom, Charles and Albert, with the wife and mother survive him. Mr. Gerboth was a citizen of high repute and one whose life was an inspiration to those who knew him. He was laid to rest in the Montrose Cemetery after an impressive sermon by Rev. Covert; pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and the beautiful and impressive funeral service by the Masons. The Journal wishes to extend sympathy to Mrs. Gerboth and her sons in their bereavement. Card of Thanks We desire to thank all our neighbors and friends and especially the Masons and members of the Eastern Star Chapter who have given us so much help and showed us somuch kindness during our trial of sickness and bereavement. Mrs. H.C. Gerboth Charles Gerboth Albert Gerboth I hope this is of some help to you.
