Regarding the Keokuk College of Physicians & Surgeons, my wife's great grandfather, Dr. William Medill BAIR, b. 1856, d. 5 July 1936 in Des Moines, IA, attended a medical school in Keokuk, IA, in the late 1800s but graduated from Ensworth Medical College, St. Joseph, MO, in 1886. According to family lore, he was "fired" from the first medical school for "saving the leg of a man that he was told to amputate". I presume then, that Dr. BAIR attended Keokuk College of P&S, probably earlier in the 1880s. Does anyone know what happened to the records of students, etc., from that medical school? Did it just close or did it merge with another institution? Was it a forerunner of the University of Iowa Medial School? Bailey Francis bfran02@learnlink.emory.edu
