Ia Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/LeeObits/179 Surname: COOK, DENNEY ------------------------- >From "Salem Weekly News", Salem, Henry co., Iowa dated April 1900: Sarah DENNEY died at her home near Pilot Grove, Lee co., April 15, 1900, in her 92nd year. Although at her great age death was rather unexpected, having been as well as common until the morning of the day she died, death occuring in the evening. Deceased was born in Bulter co., Ohio Aug. 14, 1808, daughter of James and Ellen COOK. She was united in marriage to John DENNEY in 1828. To this union was given ten children, seven of whom still survive to mourn her loss. They came to Iowa in 1846, and she has ever since lived on the same place where she died, excepting six years she spent in Nebraska with her children after the death of her husband which occurred Dec. 27, 1879. The deceased was a life long member of the Friend's church and was a great hand to read her bible and all who knew her knew only to love and respect her. Grandma, as she was always called, was the grandmother of 40 living grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Pilot Grove by the side of her husband, April 17. Thus has ended a long life of activity and usefulness. She has gone to be with Jesus And her loved ones on the other shore. Oh how happy she must be now, Since her sorrows all are o'er. She has gone to dwell with angels, We can not see her more, Unless we walk in the narrow path That leads to the Golden Shore. [Note: Her husband, John Denney, died in 1886.] >From "Salem Weekly News", Salem, Henry co., Iowa dated April 19, 1900: Grandmother DENNEY, mother of our esteemed townsman, Mr. Joseph DENNEY, died Monday morning at the home of her son, Frank DENNEY, near West Point.
