Wife was Elizabeth A. "Betsey" Carpenter HOWARD. They were originally from Middlebury Twp,Tioga, PA and had lived in Winona MN when Silas enlisted in the 2nd MN Battery in January 1862. Their children included a Chauncey, Elizabeth, James, Charles V., and Austin who was allegedly born in Red Oak, Montgomery County in 1867. Silas was injured during the Battle at SHiloh and sent home in October 1862 we believe to Winona, but in 1869 on jis application for a Pension, he stated he was a farmer in Sabula, IA. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. I read with interest all of your messages and am constantly amazed at your generosity in providing assistance to fellow genealogists. Thank you. Judy Neu Henrietta, NY
