    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Allen, Patterson, Hawkins, Pate, Wilson, Edwards, Menneke, Olinghouse Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5k.2ADE/1304.1 Message Board Post: Sharon: I have a little info on the railroad in Jackson county. The Milwaukee Railroad Depot was opened in 1872 when the railroad first arrived in Bellevue. According to the History of Jackson County, VOL II, "Preston came into existence simultaneously with the survey of the old Sabula, Ackley & Dakota railroad in 1869." The first train that came thru was in 1870. A Colonel I. M. Preston, for whom the town was named, "was identified with the building of the new railroad." In the "History of Jackson Co, Vol II" there is a picture of the Preston Depot. I have no idea when it was taken, although it appears to be more recent than 1902. If you would like a copy, I can send it as a .jpg file, just let me know. Good luck in your search. Carol
