    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5k.2ADE/389.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Dear Barbara and Bob, I am glad to have more pieces to the puzzle. I have done the family genealogy but am stumped as I have located also a JOSEPH OSHLO in the Louisiana Census and he was here in 1850. Caroline and Hans came over about 30 years later. I will be glad to share all of the information I have with you if you want it. When I started the "tree" years and years ago, I called Robert and Evelyn's house as I had their name off of a phone disc. I never spoke with her since I couldn't get past him! He answered and he was very beligerent with me and didn't want me asking any questions. I since found Gene (or I should say that Gene found me). I have sent some info to Peggy Oshlo but have not heard from her. Several years ago, we met Dave one night for dinner (we both live currently in the Houston area) but that was the last we heard from him. Guess he didn't have a good time or something. He seemed like a nice enough guy to us, but I guess that was that. I am married to Frank Oshlo's son and Frank Sr's grandson (Frank Jr and Helen Garst Oshlo had 2 children, Eric Lee and Kristina Sue) and have been for the last 3 decades. We have lived all over as "Rick" works for Conoco (in case you have that brand of gasoline near whereever you live). Since most of the Oshlo's stayed in the midwest, I am assuming that you are still near Iowa/Nebraska, but I don't know why I think that. ??? We had a reunion in Council Bluffs several years ago. We went to the gravesite of H.C. and Caroline and ate Krispy Kreme doughnuts at Doug Oshlo's Dairy Queen. It was fun. Gene and Jeannie were there and we met others, Debbie Oshlo, Pat and Don Everett, and others. Dick (Doug and Debbie's brother) did not attend but he and Doug don't get along nor does Debbie if I remember correctly. Please feel free to call me/email if you have any questions. If you send me your mailing address, I will send you the info as I find it. Yes, the name was OLSEN (NOT OLSON) and it was changed to OSHLO. Caroline's name was spelled Karoline prior to her USA arrival, also. Hans Kristian Olsen was changed to Hans Christian Oshlo. He died in 1905 from typhoid. I do not remember anything else off the top of my head as I have not done any active research in some time. I have dead-ended in locating Hans/Karoline's siblings but I have their names. We stay in touch with Erik Winther in Oslo (cousin) and just spoke with him on Sunday when he called for Easter. I guess you know that Virginia Hortense Oshlo Goodwin just celebrated her 103 birthday on March 27, 2002. She is the only surviving child of Hans and Caroline's immediate family. She is a hoot! She is the one who got me started on the family tree in the early 1970's. I guess you know that the family "disease" are lung related...emphysema, lung cancer, in addition to melanoma. Rick has high cholesterol but he got that from the Garst side of the family. We have 2 daughters. Do you have any children? It's nice to be able to type the name and know that you know how to say it! I assume you know that Charlie and Frank Oshlo, Sr. were brothers. Amanda, Bertha, and Charlie were born in Oslo, Christiania, Norway. George, Frank (Sr) and Virginia were born in the USA. Do you have a picture of Hans and Caroline? If not, I will be glad to send you one via email if you would like. I do not know if Robert and Evelyn talked of the family much at all or not...he certainly didn't divulge an inch with me...I find it all fascinating! Most of the Oshlo men who came to the USA worked for the railroad, Thanks again for the response. Do you ever come to Houston? If so, give us a call. We are listed in the phone book. Sincerely, Pam
