It ceased publication in 1862 and then started up again in 1864. (Its head printer enlisted in the army.) In 1866 it changed its name to the Jackson Sentinel. The Weekly Excelsior started in 1856. In 1876 the Jackson County Record appeared and at some later date it became the Maquoketa Record. Sabula had the Sabula Tribune which began in 1856; and, the Gazette formed in 1862. Later the Sabula Post-Gazette, don't have a year on that. I don't know if the Clinton Herald is an old newspaper or not. The Miles Reporter was an early newspaper. That's all the info I can find in my records. Hope it is of some help. The Maquoketa Library has a lot of the old newspapers.
I have an article from the Subula Gazette and it is dated Jan 1926.
