    1. [IAJACKSO] Genealogical Roadblock
    2. Donna
    3. I have been trying for the last year to find information that will tie the woman I think is my g-grandfather's mother to the family and am constantly running into roadblocks. This may be lengthy and I apologize for that but I'm hoping that if I put everything out here someone may have a suggestion. First of all, my g-grandparents were Frank and Jennie WATSON of Maquoketa, Iowa. When I found their marriage license it said they were married in the home of Mrs. Livermore. I thought this might be his mother, re-married. I knew it wasn't grandma's. To make a long story short, the Livermores were a prominent Maquoketa family. Some of the first settlers, yet I can not find this woman anywhere. I have 4 obits., one that says she died 3/3/1897, the other 3 say 3/31/1897. I should tell you that there SEEM to be 2 of these women. Her name is Rebecca M. Livermore, the other, Rebecca Markle Livermore. All of the obits. say she died on Olive st. or North Olive St. The ages they give are 75 and 80. One of them lists my grandfather as a survivor. Rebecca Markle Livermore appears to have been married to Alonzo Livermore. One of the obits. refers to her as Mrs. M. Livermore. I have a copy of her will dated 1892, and she is Rebecca Livermore, yet when she died and the will was read, it says Rebecca Livermore now HEITCHEN. She was a Livermore when she made out the will but is now using another name but keeping the Livermore name? Other than my grandfather, her will lists 3 other children, Amanda REED now ALLMAN, Mary Ellen CRAWFORD and Francis M. STARK. I don't know how many times this woman was married or if she had common law husbands. Her obits. say she is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery yet there is NO record of her death or burial. The gentelman at the historical society said if her name was in the book of cemetery listings for Mt. Hope, then she WAS in there. I talked to the caretaker of Mt. Hope and checked his records...she IS NOT THERE. 1. There is no death certificate...county or state 2. No marriage license other than Rebecca and Alonzo Livermore 3. No record of her burial 4. No records at the funeal home. It was sold and the records aren't that far back. G-grandpa was born in Indiana in 1854. I don't know when they came to Iowa. I found one record that said his father's name was Columbus WATSON yet he doesn't seem to be in Maquoketa or Jackson county. Family history says he came to Iowa with his mother and grandmother and took care of them even after his marriage at the age of 33 in 1888. After a year, maybe I'm too close to this and some one out there can see something I can't. There is one place to look yet and that is the church she was buried from. If there is nothing there, I don't know where else to look. Thank you for taking the time and having the patience to read through this.
