The Dempewolfs also came from Jackson Co., Iowa and came to Dresden and Leoville, Kansas
Hi Barb, Well, I dont have any biological connection to your surnames but the Kilburg name popped out at me, as I have often wondered how many of the children I attended school with in 1947and 48, are still living in the Jackson County Iowa area, near Bellevue, Iowa. I attended kindergarten and first grade at a rural country school house known then as the Kilburg school. My classmates were John Kilburg and Onkay Kilburg. There were only two others in the school with me, who were not Kilburgs. All the rest were Kilburg cousins,I believe. Our teacher Miss Neimmers, was a pretty special lady and I often wondered where she is today, if alive. I drove back to Iowa to visit the area, about 15 to 20,years ago and saw my old schoolhouse, decaying with age and housing some pastured pigs. Would love to know more of some of the Kilburgs who attended that school, and what became of them. Are you directly related to them? Bonnie @aol.com
Sandy, I think that cemetery is near the North Bend, Faairfield #2 schoolhouse and is listed in STONE CITIES which is a book written by Don Wentworth regarding cemeteries in the area and you can get in touch with him at e-mail [email protected] You can also order one o;f his books, STONE CITIES from the Jackson Co. Historical Society, Maquoketa, Iowa. Marge

PLEASE RESPOND TO THE SENDER OF THE MESSAGE <[email protected]> THANK YOU) -------- Original Message -------- From: DJH <[email protected]> Subject: {not a subscriber} Jessie Bell To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> I'm trying to trace an aunt, Jessie BELL. I believe she may have been married twice. I don't anything about the first marriage other than she had a daughter name Winifred that went by the name Winnie. Winnie was born July 7, 1918 and died January 16, 2000 in West Bloomfield, Oakland Michigan. At the time of her death, her last name was FLESSAS. Jessie then married Walter Ray WATSON, year unknown. I don't know her birth year but she died September 16, 1978 and is buried in Lake City, Michigan. She had a scottish accent so I'm wondering if there were BELL's in Jackson county around Maquoketa that were from Scotland. I would welcome any help with this. Thank you. Donna --

Guess there was some confusion in my e-mail request because I didn't have a surname on the request. But, does someone have access to a copy of the 1870 Iowa census -- Jackson County (Maquoketa Township) to do a look up. The copies I have seen of that time frame and this location have not been readable. Maybe someone else has found access to a better copy; if so, where was it located. Thanks.
Betty who are you looking for in Iowa.............I have Tozers,Willards Northrop's in Jackson co Iowa ...............Betty in Kansas

Pam. You might try THE BELLEVUE LEADER, Bellevue, Iowa. They may be able to tell you some history of that newspaper. Incidently, I am also working on Millers in Jackson Co. but have never heard of Alexander Miller but if I do, will let you know. Marge
