Surnames: Hawkins, Pate, Patterson, Edwards, Wilson, Menneke, Allen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5k.2ADE/1264.1.1 Message Board Post: Paul, Thanks for the reply. The EDWARDS property is located at the southeast quarter of Section 36. Jesse PATE, another ancestor, bought the southwest corner and Daniel SHINKLE bought the northeast quarter. They all came together in about 1836 and are listed "if not the very first settlers in the forks of the Maquoketa, were certainly among the first" (History of Jackson County). The map shows that the Esgate Cemetery is in Section 34. I have an Abstract of Deed that states Jones and Dorothy EDWARDS sold part of their land, two acres in 1853, to the Methodist Episcopal Church for a building site for $1.00. This shows Section 36, too. That is a great map of Farmers Creek. Is there anyway to make it smaller so it fits on less screens or can be printed? I have an old Jackson Co map, but it does not get this specific in each county. Thanks again.
