At that time, Catherine was employed as a housekeeper at one of the parish rectories (perhaps even St. Patrick's). Is anyone aware of a resource avaialable which would help confirm which parish Catherine was employed at? Thanks.
Hi Folk I have just recently subscribed to this list. Hopeful someone maybe able to help or at least point me in the right direction!! I am seeking Census details of James Brown WOOD who was supposedly born March 28 1870 Jackson County, Iowa. His parents were John Brown Wood (aka Ebenezer...another story!) and Elizabeth who supposedly came out from Lincolnshire UK. (John Brown his father it seems changed his name from Ebenezer before he migrated.) Any help or helpful suggestion in trying to locate this family would be most welcome. A relative of mine is used to be an editor for the "Spirit Lake IA Herald" according to an obit. (She moved to Des Moines in 1916 so this newspaper would've been at this time.) Maquoketa would have probably had a newspaper in that time frame and may have shown news for the towns that you mentioned. I know that the Bellevue paper was in being about that time frame too. I don't know if Preston & Miles had newspapers at that time. I haven't heard of the town of Sterling. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 25, 2002 1:00 PM Subject: [IAJACKSO] Newspapers of Jackson Co. 1870-1910 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
