    2. The hospital in Bellevue, Iowa was called the Jackson Co. Lutheran Hospital, I think. Previously to 1953 it was the Mounton Hospital but had been closed for some time before all of the Lutheran Churches in Jackson went together and bought it. Marge

Surnames: Patterson, Pate, Edwards, Wilson, Hawkins, Allen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5k.2ADE/1287.2 Message Board Post: The Maquoketa Sentinel began publishing in 1854. It ceased publication in 1862 and then started up again in 1864. (Its head printer enlisted in the army.) In 1866 it changed its name to the Jackson Sentinel. The Weekly Excelsior started in 1856. In 1876 the Jackson County Record appeared and at some later date it became the Maquoketa Record. Sabula had the Sabula Tribune which began in 1856; and, the Gazette formed in 1862. Later the Sabula Post-Gazette, don't have a year on that. I don't know if the Clinton Herald is an old newspaper or not. The Miles Reporter was an early newspaper. That's all the info I can find in my records. Hope it is of some help. The Maquoketa Library has a lot of the old newspapers.

    2. Rachel Alliston
    3. Hi Folk I joined this list yesterday and am absolutely gobsmacked at the wonderful response I have had from my first query. A special public thank you to Dick Tague:-) However, could SKS point me where I might find details of Shipping details for a family who migrated from the UK abt 1867. Which would be the closest port of entry for them to come to Iowa?? I'm sorry my geography to your part of the country is limited! I am in search of the Shipping Details of John Brown WOOD and his wife Elizabeth. The family were originally from Lincolnshire UK and according to the 1890 Census they had been in the Country for 33 years TIA Rachel Alliston Beautiful Lake Macquarie Australia
