My ggggrandmother, Louisa Wells married Abraham Lincoln Beesley in 1823 in Birmingham, England and traveled to Sabula (Jackson Co.) Iowa. There she died in 1882 and buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula, IA. Children are: Harry (my ancestor), William, Abraham, George, Benjamin and Thomas - all born in England, except last son (George) between 1827 and 1858. Are we related?
Lots of luck Marilyn, I sent letters for four months to Maquoketa County Clerk with no response till I contacted the other county agency. Then what I got was a over copied sign about contacting the Society instead of bothering county folks. They even sent my letter and check back when I tried to get a birth certificate copy with yet another copy of "that" sign. I haven't come across a solution for Jackson County yet.
Just maybe if you go to the Jackson County page and find the lookup volunteers they would be ever so glad to help you out. Try Ken Write at the following address [email protected] Ken says -Jackson County Courthouse and Maquoketa City Library - I would be willing to do volunteer research in either the Court House or library. (One request at a time, please.) Try this address for the Jackson County page - http://www.rootsweb com/~iajackso/ Or if all else fails write a letter to the Jackson County Historical and Genealogy Society - I know they will help you. Some 'government workers' don't consider genealogy research their job - however their main job is being 'keeper of the papers' and if they have the papers it is their job to respond favoribly to our requests - I don't care what they say or think. If push comes to shove you can write to the Clerk of Court or the Chief Judge with your request and your complaint. Don't forget to enclose your fee for the search and the copies and the all important SASE. This is from a genealogy searching government worker - and one who has had wonderful luck in Jackson County. I have spent the past twelve months studying the Whitfields in the Idle/Pudsey/Calverley/Horsforth/Bramley areas between Leeds and Bradford in the West Riding of Yorkshire. My 3 x great grandfather's nephew, Joseph, was born 08 November 1807 in Idle. He married and had children in the area. He appears on the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses for the Idle area. In 1881 he was widowed and living with his widowed daughter, Martha Exley. On the headstone over the grave of his parents and two sisters is the following entry: "Also of Joseph Whitfield who died Maquoketa, USA January 31st 1886 aged 79 years" I have absolutely no idea why he travelled to Iowa to die! I tried e-mailing an historical society in Maquoketa but I didn't receive a reply. If anyone can throw any light on this matter I would love to hear from you! Also, if anyone needs information about the Whitfields in the areas detailed above please contact me. Marilyn Maybury Lancashire, UK

It was interesting after all these years to hear the names of Alfred, Steve and Bennet Schwager. I went to Andrew High School with them and watched them play basketball. Alfred was a good basketball player and would get so red in the face whenever a girl would talk to him. Just a little rememberance of some old classmates. Marge McCarron DeGear

There are several index screens of Weeds who have first names beginning with the letter "E" <http://207.235.35.133/genealogy/eagan/html/index/ind0378.htm>. The preliminary pages and an older version of the database are at "The Weed Family Online" <http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/7588/>. We really need to know E. C. Weed's full name and approximate dates and places of birth & death. His first name, especially if it is more unusual, may provide valuable clues. The Weed family was prolific, and thus being in the same county does not necessarily indicate a close relationship. For example, both Pat Eagan and I have Weeds in Oswego County NY, but they are 2 different "strains."
