Jackson County, IAGenweb has a board specifically for biographies. I suggest that the biographies be posted there and then the person notified that that is where the biography is. Charlotte M. Meyer - coordinator Jackson County, IAGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~iajackso/

A wise person knows that they will or should be eager to learn something new from every person they meet along the way. This lesson might just go double for people looking for information related to geneology as frankly you never know where you'll find it. Just a tiny bit of information might just lead to someone else who knows something they are willing to share! As a side note, I found some pictures my Grandfather took in the 1912's or so of other couples who'd have been his friends. Now I'll be posting this on the Crawford county website --- again who'd give a flip unless well this is the GRANDCHILDREN of a family named Carl Sturges! And I'd bet they'd love to see pictures of their grandparents as I have quite a few I'd love to share. So wouldn't it be way to bad if something like this were 'worthless' chatter and those pictures never allowed them to get to know their grandparents like I'm getting to know a man I never really knew? (It is such a treat to see him doing NORMAL things like washing his shirt in a creek on a camping trip at about 20 years of age in 1915!!!) Marge

I guess this is why I don't understand all the fuss about these biographies I mean I'd bet ALL of you have relatives that lived in this area and thus it would be extremely interesting! MY favorite Great Grandmother lived most of her life in Crawford County (Charter Oak Iowa) but .... Her parents arrived from Prussia just before she was born in Miles in 1874 and would have lived there until she was about 18 if I remember right. They weren't wealthy land barrons but poor people who spoke no English. She told us stories of how she'd climb into a tree to sneak magazines just to learn the language. How I'd love to hear that in one of these BIO'S a neighbor was good friends or farmed with Frederick Nipkow and his wife Whilimina or GEE WIZ maybe even played with Otto, Gusta, Albert and little Anna!
I to enjoy the Biographies as I have had family in the area about that time and I just may see something about Horace Stewart or Eugene Stewart some time It does give us a look at what the people were like. Keep up the good work. Betty

This is a very good reason to leave a list as yes there's little reason to read or get mail you aren't interested in. Each of us will have very different goals in joining lists like this. My Relatives only lived in Jackson County for a brief period before moving onward. I am interested in getting any obscure information not only about THEM but about what life was like during the time they would have lived there. For this reason I find this information most facinating but YES if there was too much information for me to either handle or digest I'm not sure if I'd leave the list just because there was a bit more mail or just delete the excess for a brief period knowing that this sadly isn't going to last very long and in the very near future I might find something I can truly use from a list like this. Truly in Geneology the most important lesson is that you never can be exactly certain where that next grain of information will come from. I've learned more information from places where I least expected to find it or frankly wasn't even looking!!! Marge

I for one, have benefited from it in more ways than one. I got the asked for Person, but in the same article, In some articles like this you'll also see information where say Joe Smith worked with Adam Jones ... Now you asked for information on Mr. Smith but by all of us reading the same information you'll learn that Mr. Jones owned say a hardware store which some family named JONES might later learn by reading such a post. It's interesting that you can also access this same information by some other locations. A distant cousin of my husband's has become friends with me via geneology .... HE did a search once looking for posts by HOSTERS or something and came up with posts by me on a DOLL board. Truthfully he knew who I was obviously but if he hadn't and was looking for someone named Hoster he'd have found one by doing such a search. Also the Jones family could do a search for information on Adam Jones on this board or other boards and generate the post which mentioned HIM in the SMITH post. THIS is why I wish people would understand that this isn't just "worthless" or bothersome information! I can almost see their annoyance if we'd been chatting on this board about recipies for chocolate cake but THIS IS geneology and thus is very important information. I never feel that I have nothing to gain. Always something new. Perhaps about the ancestors way of life and where they lived. Census and cemetery photos don't tell those things. People do. I never meant to offend..........just offer support to the list and to Donna. Barb Durant

I see nothing wrong with Donna sharing this information. I for one, have benefited from it in more ways than one. I got the asked for Person, but in the same article, I got information on several other family members. Please, don't unsubscribe.............you will reap some of the harvest too. There is way too much chatter and e-mails which say really nothing (of which mine is surely one). Can we just stop all the useless chatter (again, my e-mail falls into this category and I will not do it again) and stick with the provision of real information PLEASE. Thank you very mcuh. IF it is interesting to people then they are all excited but if not then a stink is raised. I can see that to mail them individually would be a good solution. For me I doubt any or my relatives would be in that thing, but it is exciting to read what people were doing at the same time my relatives would have lived there so I would have missed out if I'd missed it or it wasn't allowed. It just amazes me that for brief periods when the mail increases why people can't just hit the delete button as THIS will also pass as believe me no one is going to be typing those biographies very long. I'd sure hate to miss out on them because some don't want to read them -- JUST my opinion, and I'm SAVING this mail so I can enjoy them when I have more time to read how wierd is that? Marge

Hello Everyone~ Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. Anyways, the reason why I am writing is because I have been receiving alot of emails from people who are wanting to unsubscribe due to these Biographies. I was wondering if there was anyway that these can be sent to each person individually instead of on the mailing list or not. I hate to loose so many people because of this and to have so many upset because someone is trying to do a good dead for all of us, but on the other hand I'm not sure how this should be handled. Maybe there can be a solution to this problem and hopefully get back all the unsubscribers that we have lost. Feel free to keep on contacting me and hopefully we can get this resolved as soon as possible. Thanks for your time! Regarding Donna Walker's bigraphy trascritions - I'm with Marge who wrote: > I think this person... is doing a good deed... I enjoy reading the biographies and getting a feel for what life was like in Jackson county during those times. (I also hope I'll stumble across some reference to someone in My family tree in the process) I' sorry for those who feel compelled to drop from the list because something that doesn't interest them comes across. (I thought that was why they invented the "delete" key) As for the copyright issue, I'd think that since the original work is now in the public domain, transcriptions would just as easily be done from the original book and should be indistinguishable from transcriptions done from the scanned images. Copying the scanned images from the CD and distributing them without permission could get sticky, though. So, Thanks, Donna! Keep 'em coming! --RB
