    1. Re: [IAJACKSO] ~Biographies~
    2. I think the biographies are great, even tho I know none of the people, I always hold out hope that perhaps it might be someone from my ancestors part of the country and Ill learn more about my ancestors way of living etc. Besides that, I always look upon the biograhies as a learning situation where a part of history, culture, or morales of the time are revealed in describing even a perfect stranger. They are fascinating to me. Thanks. Bonnie

    1. Re: [IAJACKSO] Biographies-- How about on the Jackson County web site?
    2. Charlotte, That is why you have such a neat site....you enjoy your work and your place had been most beneficial. I have a problem maybe you or someone could help with. Thomas RANNALS married Adelia Anna BARKLEY (dau of Henry BARKLEY and Elizabeth M. SIMON). I know they were buried, I believe, in Sutton Cemetery. I have his obituary. Says he was born 22 January 1853 in Niles, (Trumbull Co. Ohio), while his official death record says Pittsburg, Allegheny Co., Pa. In one of the Jackson Co. History books they mention John WADDLE and his wife Eliza (Campbell) Waddle. They fostered him. In the book the last name is Reynolds, but it really is RANNALS. According to the 1860 Jackson Co., Iowa census he and th Waddles were there and he went by Thomas Waddle. When he was older, her then went by Renils, Rannels, and Rannals. Some of the childeren were George RANNALS, John RANNALS, Nora, Elizabeth "Babe" and my Pateral Grandmother, Nettie Eliza RANNALS, who married Elman Russell MASSCEY, son of Fred and Ora Catherine CLARK MASSCEY. In other words, how can I find who his bio parents were? Are ther any records of a Wagon train from Ohio to Iowa in 1854 (summer) as Tom was 18 months when his parents left him with the Waddles? We were told that the parents may have went with other WADDLEs like a James Waddle in the wagon train...they either died en route to Iowa or after arriing there, from the influenza. OR....they just plain disappeard and abandoned him! What am I to do? Any hep would be appreciated.. Mary Lou thanks for all your work you do. > > Charlotte?... Are you still the keeper of the web site? > > Yes, I am. And I have a Biographies board specifically for posting > biographies (funny how that works). Look under B for Biographies. P.S. And Laura this is frankly how you WILL find your relatives! There are the strangest places to look and boards like this give you neat ideas. Just the other day on a geneology board we were told to go to Googly.com which is a search engine. Type in your relatives last name or WHOLE name if this might happen. IF there's ever been a picture posted on the web it will come up when you do a search using IMAGES. I did it for HOSTER, which isn't the most common name on earth (try it with JONES and you'll generate way to many) I found a picture or the Carl Hoster house in Downtown Columbus Ohio -- and since I'm living there how neat is this? These are 'shirtail relatives' but still pictures of his Beer company, and Beer mugs -- well again who knows where and what you'll find. ALSO, if any of your relatives have websites where they have posted pictures this will also come up. ANOTHER HINT -- assuming as I did you've got a very unusual and uncommon name DO a search for just the name. I came up with Two College Professors in Germany who share this odd last name -- THESE are NOT sites with people who are doing geneology and ONE was completely in German! OK now what do you do? I suspect that I'd be related to them via my Great-Grandmother who'd been born in 1887 -- OH we'd be REAL close relatives right? I wrote both men brief notes telling them who Anna was and asked if THEY knew who their relatives would have been and if they'd trace back to Stettin Prussia in the late 1880's! AND said a big prayer as I hit send! I about passed out cold when professor #1 wrote back in less than 30 minutes ........ HE was very nice and said he'd look into it and LOOK into it HE DID! The other didn't write back for several weeks ...... THE one who's site was completely in German had been researching for me and sent me stacks of data! All this from a search for the name NIPKOW ..... and did you know one of their, and my relatives was the guy who invented TV? How bout that? SO keep looking and you'll also find neat information! I just picked up more from someone who'd sent it to my father --- IT's related to one of his relatives and dates back as early as 800's! OR earlier!!! Dad said he got tired of entering it so he gave up, something about OLD KING COLE -- I thought this was just a nursery rhyme for crying out loud!!! We'll see I could be related to a nursery rhyme and the guy who invented TV! Marge

    3. Hello Everyone~ Maybe I didn't specify myself the greatest when I wrote my last query about the Biographies. I received most of the emails due to the upset regarding the Copyright issue. It seems to have offened quite a few people. As to when the biographies are written it clutters up so many peoples mailboxes when they have very few ancestors who were from the Jackson County area. I'm not sure what else to say/do so I hope maybe this will pass very soon. 3. Kerry and list The Iowa-Irish list administrator posts many biographies herself. Then they get posted to the website so if we found out later we were connected to someone in the bio, we could always have access to them. I love them. These are the friends and neighbors of my ancestors. They lived and worked side by side. Their story reflects, I believe, what my ancestors experienced. I only wish some of my folks had been a little more notable! Besides, the delete key is quick & easy. Ellen

    1. [IAJACKSO] What is appropriate?
    2. I would think that discussing those biographies IS important, and related to what this message board is about. Perhaps if someone could clear up what IS appropriate to talk about. That is, what guidelines are there as to what subject matter is to be discussed on this particular board. I would assume that SPAM and jokes are out which I agree is way off subject and generates way more mail than is necessary. Also if we are laughing or discussing about how warm or cold it is where we live I guess this would also be not necessary but I know happens commonly on boards as people get to know each other and become friends. I feel badly at this point for enjoying and looking forward to those biographies. I honestly assumed that information ABOUT people and Jackson County Iowa was what this board should have had a focus on. I know on an old favorite Geneology board we give each other 'hints' back and forth all the time as to where to go for data and often if we have extra time or a name sparks our interest we go use our skills to pass on data to the next guy. I don't know about the rest of them but I do it just because it is fun and I enjoy the history and adventure of it all. Besides I feel really smart if I find someone on a record or something that their family hasn't had before!!! Marge Hoster

Could this be a grainery that your family was associated with! I'm also sorry this became such a hotly argued issue as I doubt people realize just how much information is gleened from information like this. THIS is information about Jackson County IOWA now isn't it? I'm not sure what other information would be any more important ..... And I'd bet it would suddenly become very important if the name of someone who thinks this idle chatter suddenly appears IN one of those bios and a new clue or relative is found. Marge

    3. Let it be known that I have no problem with the bios at all and the content of the bios. Just the relentless idle chatter about the virtues of sending or receiving the bios which is causing me to read now countless e-mails which have no informational content all but which are merely laced with a subscriber's opinion. As long as "content" is in the e-mails (and the bios are full of content), I have no problem with the e-mails. But, I really don't care about the opinion of the e-mail subscribers. Notice, I didn't send this e-mail to everyone. Thank you. Patrick J. 2. One should note that when an item is posted to the list one can reply directly to the individual that did the posting of that info, the originators email address is included you know. It seems that would cut down on the message board traffic for personal comments between subscribers. Gene in FL
