    3. Welcome to June and Summertime! It's time to get out and enjoy the weather in between rain drops! The Midwest has certainly had more than it's share of wet weather, but at least the temps have been comfortable. Would you like to be a part of a wonderful group of volunteers that gathers genealogical data for other researchers? If so, IAGenWeb has county coordinator positions open. We're always looking for volunteers in the many aspects of what we do - locating and transcribing records, photographing and uploading gravestone photos, etc. Check out this page http://iagenweb.org/state/jointeam.php. There's also a link on the page for learning more about becoming a county coordinator. The counties we have available are: Adams, Calhoun, Carroll, Cerro Gordo, Emmet, Floyd, Jones, Jackson, Lyon, Mahaska, Montgomery, Mitchell, Pottawattamie, Poweshiek, Sac and Tama. Stop in and take a look at those you're interested in. The links to each of the counties are available at http://iagenweb.org/state/colist.php. See something you like? Send an email to the Welcome Hostesses, at welcome_to_iagenweb@iagenweb.org Hope to hear from you soon! Cindy and Karon Welcome Hostess welcome_to_iagenweb@iagenweb.org

    3. Where has the year gone?!  September is already here bringing College Football, Labor Day and time for school classes to start up once a gain! Labor Day, everyone's last 'vacation' time and BBQ's. What an awesome time of the year!   And a great time for that end of summer family reunion and to think about a fun interesting family history project to do during the winter!   The perfect project to consider is that of a 'County Coordinator' CC for one of IAGenWeb's orphan counties!  We have a wonderful group of counties that are in need of a county coordinator. A new coordinator is needed for JONES, JACKSON, SAC, IDA, CARROLL, GREENE, LYON, ADAMS, POTTAWATTAMIE, EMMET, & MAHASKA counties. However, what this holiday is really about is that this day commemorates our independence from Great Britain back in 1776. Exercise your independence this year by becoming an IAGenWeb county coordinator .and experience the satisfaction of bringing IAGenWeb to appreciative genealogists everywhere. New coordinators are needed for JONES, JACKSON, SAC, IDA, CARROLL, GREENE, LYON, ADAMS, POTTAWATTAMIE, EMMET, & MAHASKA counties. 3. Hi everyone! Sorry to start another thread of messages so close to a Surname Shout Out but with the lists being down the first part of the year it threw my scheduling off. Hope you don't mind... With this being the Memorial Day Weekend, I thought it would it be interesting to post one ancestor we have in our family trees who served in one of the many wars and battles we fought in US History. Obviously it has to be an ancestor from this county. :) Give a brief biography of that person including the unit and war he or she was in, a POW, injuries, plus the usual genealogical stuff. Thanks in advance and have a safe weekend! Rick B Admin

    3. As Thanksgiving nears, it's a special time to put some thought into things for which we are thankful.   One of the things I appreciate is IAGenWeb and the fact that we offer a web resource tool for family researchers that is high quality and free. In order to make those resources available, we count on volunteers to assist. IAGenWeb has countless volunteers and we are grateful for all they do.   If you are interested in joining our team as a volunteer, there are numerous ways you can contribute.   One way is to volunteer to transcribe records or you could offer to do look ups.  Another way is to become a county coordinator for one of our orphan counties.  Right now, we have 13 counties that are in need of a coordinator.  They are: JONES, JACKSON, SAC, IDA, POWESHIEK, SCOTT, CARROLL, GREENE, LYON, ADAMS, POTTAWATTAMIE, EMMET, and MAHASKA.
