Hi all, I have come into possession of a very old photo album which was in my grandmother's house. Unfortunately, not more than two of the over 50 photos have any identification on them other than the name of the photographer and the city (and some not even that) --no names, no dates. *ARGH* :-( I have been able to identify a couple of these thanks to my Mom's input, but most of them are clearly relatives from the 1800's and early 1900's with absolutely NO CLUE as to who they are. Pleasant, Iowa: McAdam Bros., Mammoth Photographic Studio Fairfield, Iowa: Al Hilbert's East Side Gallery "Over Freemans & Townleys Jewelry Store." Galesburg, Illinois: Barker (also Barker & Bulkley, 27 Main Street and also 2 & 4 Main Street) Galesburg, Illinois: C. A. Winsor, Portrait Photographer, 12 & 14 Main Street Galesburg, Illinois: T. Harrison, Photographer, 27 Main Street Kewanee, Illinois: Andrew Johnson, Photographer Ottawa, Illinois: W. E. Bowman, Photographer Chicago, Illinois: E. L. Brand & Co., Photographers, 596 Wabash Ave. "Established in 1857." Terre Haute, Indiana: C. Eppert Terre Haute, Indiana: Adams The book itself is marked "Smith's Studio of Photography, 206 N. Clark Street, Chicago" -- It shows an award from the Paris Exposition of 1878. I realize I have very little hope of every discovering who the people in the photos are (I know they are my relatives, but which ones???). Still, I'm hoping SOMEONE out there might have some information on these old photo studios, and might know whether by some miracle any of them are still around.
