Hello fellow researchers, I'd be interested in knowing what caused Henry Co residents to migrate to Nebraska/Kansas too. I have some that moved first to Kearney Co Nebraska in 1887, then to Gosper Co Nebraska six years later. Family tradition had it that they participated in the "Nebraska Land Rush", but there's no mention of any such event anywhere I've looked. I even had a volunteer searching the Nebraska area newspapers for mention of an event to draw new people to the area, since both counties had already been pretty well established at the time. I can't even find any land grants for my ancestors, so it doesn't look like they even took advantage of the Homesteading Act, let alone participate in any land rush. So that leaves me wondering why they left all the rest of their family to go to Nebraska? Does anyone on this list have access to Henry Co newspapers from that time period? Maybe we'd find ads or something drawing settlers out? Just a thought.
