Hi, Glad to see a few out there . My line is a real mystery Barnabus Wright appears in the 1840 census of Henry Co. with what appears to be a fair size family he was born in 1805 and is said to have came to Iowa in Sept of 1839 . He married My Great Great Great Grandmother Nancy Sales McCracken from Ill. in 1843 . One of the persons who appears to be in the 1840 census in Barnabus''s household was a JosephWright who I think was Barnabus's brother Joseph died young and his wife remarried to a man named James. A Mary Wright who I think was Joseph's daughter inherited the property. My Mystery is what happened to Barnabus Wright s first family. -Barnabas WRIGHT (2 Feb 1805-19 Jan 1888) sp: Nancy Sales MCCRACKEN (15 Jul 1818-25 Sep 1901) 2-James William WRIGHT (16 Dec 1843-8 Aug 1919 in Colo. >>>>> MY Line 2-Janie WRIGHT (1845-1845) 2-Mary Elizabeth WRIGHT (Oct 1849-1913) -M-Orlando Foster 2-Martha Louise WRIGHT (Mar 1851-1920) -M- Wm. I am searching for a Mrs. P. QUIRK who lived in Lowell, Iowa in October 1902. This is a married female whose maiden name is MCCARTHY. I do not know her husband's name. I don't even know if the P is the first initial or the female or her husband. If anyone recognizes this name or could possibly do a census look-up or city directory look-up, I would greatly appreciate it. Ultimately, I am trying to locate marriage information or an obituary that might include the parents name of P. Quirk. Thank you very much! Anne Marie

I'm delighted to see you communicating with one another on the list. I have been preoccupied with critical illnesses of two sisters-in-law for the past three months, both of whom died the same day on St. Patrick's Day. Needless to say, the Henry County site has been neglected in the interim. If anyone would like to do a brief page or two of information on Henry County families or the early settlement days for the Henry County site, that is well written and in HTML coding, I would be willing to consider it for inclusion on the site. Likewise, if you have a website of your own that pertains to Henry County, I would like to link to it if it meets the standards of the USGENWEB. If you are looking for Henry County families who were here as early as 1850, I would also like to remind you that the 1850 Henry County census is on-line at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iahenry/census/censindx.htm We have Mary Thompson to thank for transcribing this for the Census Project in Iowa. Hi List, My Henry County Surnames include: SPURRIER BARRETT CAMMACK FRAZIER WAY LEE among others. Will share info. Doug in Oregon
I believe I've got more e-mail from this site in the last hour than I have since I subscribed several months ago. I have two groups from the Salem area that I am looking for info about: 1. JOY, WAY, FRAZIER, and ARNOLD who were all Quakers that came to the county around 1837. 2. LIGHTNER and FOSTER who settled around Lowell, Baltimore Township in 1853. I have a copy of "The WAY FAMILY of NANTUCKET" and "The JOY FAMILY HISTORY" which include many who settled in Henry county and would be happy to look-up info for anyone interested. Benjamin Lightner (b. 1845 PA d. 1873) and wife Susan Foster (b. 1850 Ohio d. 1881) died young leaving my great grandfather, Frank Lightner, a nine year old orphan raised by his grandfather Frank Foster and grandmother Mary Riley. I am trying to find out the cause of Benjamin's death. I just recently found the location of his grave in an eleven volume set of books in the LA City Library "Henry County Cemeteries". My Way family in Iowa includes Rachel Way, daughter of Henry Way, who came with her husband Reuben Joy to Salem in 1837. Thanks for any help, Mark mjklein@mindspring.com
