I only know about one cemetery in Henry county, Iowa. I have a photo of the archway gate of Lambirth Cemetery in Tippecanoe Twp., and it is spelled Lambirth rather than Lambert. Good luck with your project sounds like a nice idea. Sandy and list subscribers: I visited you web site and the page with the information about the other trips the McCully's took to CA and OR reminded me of an old family story that my gggrandfather, Samuel T. Saint, went to CA gold rush in 1849 and returned "a year and a half later." Samuel T. lived in Tippecanoe Twp., Henry Co. at the time. This story was written down in some notes my parents took down when they talked to a great uncle in the 1970's Samuel T. Saint married Hannah Husted, 15 July 1848, at the house of her father, Peter Husted in Yellow Springs Twp., Des Moines Co., IA In HISTORY OF DES MOINES COUNTY AND ITS PEOPLE, By Augesine M. Antorobus there is a biographical sketch of William Husted, a brother of Hannah Husted. "William Husted has resided in Des Moines county since I842, save for a period of a year and a half spent in California." The wording of the legnth of the trip matches the story of my great uncle. >From your web site page, http://pweb.netcom.com/~symbios/wagntrn.html, you say that "David and Asa McCully joined a group from DesMoines and Henry counties bound for the California gold fields." So did the McCullys, Saints and Husteds go to CA on the same wagon train? I've look for evidence of this but haven't found any yet. I had a search for the Saint and Husted names done in California Wagon Train Lists, Vol 1, 1849-1852 with neither name in the index. If these families did go to CA together maybe this information might lead to you finding the answer. I have the disadvantage of not living in Henry Co., IA or CA. Keep us up-to-date on what you might find about 49ers from Henry and Des Moines Co. going to CA and OR. Thanks, Leslie W. Harriet, Have you tried contacting the Iowa Methodist Archives - Esther Wonderlich, phone, 319-385-6321, email, ewonder@iwc.edu (Hours: Mon. - Fri., 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.). The office is in the Chadwick Library at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant. I was able to get an obituary from the a set of books called the Register of the Annual Conference of a Methodist minister in my descendant chart. I'm sure there are more records there that might be useful for genealogical purposes, but I didn't have time to look at them. You might also get some information from Lynn Ellsworth, College Archives 319-385-6320. Iowa Wesleyan College web site is: http://www.iwc.edu/ In the Old Main building there are photos of all the presidents of the college and Henry Walker's photo may be there also. Is there anyone else on this list that knows what else is located in the Old Main building at Iowa Wesleyan College? Leslie W. I am attempting to locate any info on Henry & Elizabeth Walker et al, who lived in Mt Pleasant around 1842. Henry apparently donated substantial land to the then new Iowa Wesleyan College, to become 1 of the 5 founders of the school. Henry was a one time river boat captain. He was also the owner/operator of the 1st ferry across the Mississippi at Burlington IA. I'm unsure how many children they had. However I do know they had twins Ransom & Elizabeth b March 15 1842 in Mt Pleasant. Ransom attended Wesleyan College, only to leave in June 1861 to join the Union Army (in Infantry attached to Co. E 1st Regiment Iowa Cavalry). He was wounded during service and in Sept 1864, Ransom returned to his fathers' farm (Henry) in Mt Pleasant. Ransom married Mary Elizabeth Cable (b. Dec 8 1842) Jan 01 1866 and 2 of their 9 children were born in Mt Pleasant - Susie Amy b Nov 10 1866 and Anna Elizabeth b Apr 27 1868 I would appreciate any info. Henry W. Barnes married Anna Kleist in Wisconsin. They moved to Lee County, IA about 1917. Henry worked on the railroad. In 1920 census they lived in Cedar Township. There were two daughters: Isabella born 1914 and Anna born 1919. Does anyone have any information about this family? Thank you. Mary Rowlands mlands@ix.netcom.com
I have a small album with family pictures in it. My family is Scott, Tevis, Saint, Fenn, Livix, Luzadder among others, the pictures I have that I don't think are mind have these names on them - ant kitty Myers, Augustus & Mallie his wife, Samuel Crawford & Mattie his wife - the photographer is in Baltimore, Md. which is where the Tevis family came from. There are other pictures with no names and a calling card of Julie M. Hawn. This album is from the family collector that lived in Mt. Pleasant. Will be glad to send them to whoever if anyone knows who they are. Karen in Oregon
Hi Ron, My husband's last name is JOY. I've done very little research on this family but one of his cousins has. You might try contacting Russ at <rczap@hotbot.com>. Our JOY line moved to Nebraska from Michigan but I know there are some relatives in IA. I think I've run into Eli JOY looking at census records. Are the JOYs in Henry Co Quakers? If so you might try subscribing to the Quaker list at <QUAKER-ROOTS-D-request@rootsweb.com> I copied this some years back but Russ didn't find an immediate connection with our family. 1870 U.S. Census - Union Twp, Mahaska Co IA pg 27 186 187 Joy, Franklin L. 23 Farmer 500 660 Michigan " , Mary A. 22 kpg house PA " , Clarence 1 IA " , Addie V. 8/12 IA (b. I'm looking to exchange information with others researching the line of George Campbell and Caroline Davis. George and Caroline were married in 1844 in Parke county, Indiana. They moved to Henry county near Salem. They were Quaker. George and Caroline had four children: Mary, Milly, Henry Clay and David. Family stories have it that George disappeared for many years and Caroline had him declared dead then remarried to Joseph Thornburg. I would really like to find Caroline's date of death and where she is buried. I am descended through their daughter Milly and have much info on that line. Any help appreciated. Janet Young Berkson

Mary, There is a set of indexes for most or all the cemeteries in Henry County published by the Henry County Genealogical Society but I don't have access to them. These indexes are organized by township. Do you know what townwhip Vorheis Cemetery is located? You could probably get a quicker response by writing the Henry County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 81, Mt. Pleasant, IA. You would also get an answer from the Mt. Pleasant Public Library, 200 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, IA. 52641, (319) 385-3615. Leslie W. Saint.
