Bissen, 81, of Dunlap died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at his home in Dunlap. He was born on July 31, 1919 in Defiance to parents Paul and Mary (Heinzl-meir) Bissen. He gradu-ated from St. Peter Catholic High School in Defiance in 1938. Don served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Marjorie Adams McHugh in Clarinda. The couple lived in Dunlap. Don worked at IBP in Denison for 27+ years. He has held various positions over the years at IBP but was currently working in the laundry department. Marjorie died on May 21, 1995. Don was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling, a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the VFW. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Marjorie and a sister, Sister Leona Bissen. Survivors include his five sons, Mike Bissen of Sandy, Utah, Dan Bissen (Susan) of Center Conway, N.H., Joe McHugh (Jolene) of Omaha, Neb., Michael McHugh of Omaha, Neb., Alan McHugh (Kimberly) of Pembroke, Ga.; four daughters, Janice (Joe) Kramer of Harlan, Jeanne (Richard) Muff of Clarinda, Kathy (Bill) Krajicek of Vail and Karen Bissen and Kim of Dunlap; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers, Melvin Bissen (Georgia Ann) of Dunlap, Joe Bissen (Leona) of Clarinda, Paul Bissen (Alma) and Kenny Bissen (Alma) of Florida; six sisters, Stella (Virgil) Hodapp of Harlan, Rita Benjamin of Hornick, Armellia (Germain) Reding of Omaha, Neb., Theresa Simmons of Omaha, Neb., Margaret Adams of Omaha, Neb. and Marie (Sylvan) Jans of Arizona and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling. Rev. Michael Berner and Rev. Chuck Kottas officiated. Musician was Betty Gaul. Special music was provided by St. Joseph's Choir. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Dunlap. Military graveside rites were courtesy of Dunlap American Legion Post #224. Pallbearers were Jeff Brownfield, Kent Bushnell, Ed Gunia, Ron Kramer, Richard A. Muff, Tom Murphy. Fouts Funeral Home of Dunlap/Woodbine was in charge of arrangements.
