Jan. 4, 1912 - Feb. 4, 2007 Logan Herald-Observer 2/14/2007 Mass of Christian Burial for Fay S. Fouts was held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 8 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa. Celebrant was Rev. Paul Strittmatter and musicians were Fran Klein, Jerry Baldwin and Amanda Sandvold. Selections were "In the Garden," "How Great Thou Art" and "Here I am Lord." Honorary pall bearers were Fay's grandchildren. Pall bearers were Pauline Kloewer, Bob Fouts, Phil Fouts, Kenneth Fouts, Phyllis Petersen, Vicky Henkelman, Becky Young and Jim Fouts. Fay S. Fouts was born Jan. 4, 1912, to William Adel and Elizabeth (Mosher) Fouts in Dunlap, Iowa. Fay attended Grove Township Shelby County School #2. Fay married Helen Patricia Burns on Nov. 21, 1930, in Logan Iowa. The couple farmed in the Galland's Grove area until 1965. They then moved to Dunlap where Fay worked for Schaben Auction Service. The couple moved to Council Bluffs and Fay worked at Offutt Air Force Base. Fay retired in 1980 and the couple returned to Dunlap where they lived in the funeral home and helped their son and daughter-in-law with visitations. Helen died April 15, 1998. Fay was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He had served on the Grove Township Board and as clerk of the Grove Township. Fay enjoyed baseball and horse racing and he was always ready for a card game. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he always had a smile on his face. Fay died Feb. 4, 2007, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 95 years and one month. Fay was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; infant son Billy Darrell, three brothers, Holley, Harvey and Floyd; and three sisters, Florence Greenwood, Ethel Steinhauser and Julia Lahr. He is survived by eight children, Pauline (Jerry) Kloewer of Harlan, Bob Fouts of Dunlap, Phil (Anita) Fouts of Woodbine, Kenneth (Janice) Fouts of Dunlap, Phyllis (WD "Pete") Petersen of Sahuarita, Ariz., Vicky (Tom) Henkelman of Denver, Colo., Becky (Dave) Young of Queen Creek, Ariz., Jim (Peggy) Fouts of Dow City, Iowa; 33 grandchildren; 77 great grandchildren; 10 great-great-grand-children; one brother Glen (Doris) Fouts of Beaumont, Texas; one sister, Marcella Hansen of Carson City, Nev.; and many other relatives and friends. Final resting place was Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap was in charge of arrangements.
