(Hildreth) Peterson was born December 29, 1924, to Charles and Nina (Crews) Hildreth in Pisgah, Iowa. She graduated from Pisgah High School in 1942. She then taught country school at the Delance school near Moorhead, Iowa. She later took summer teachers training through Buena Vista College. Phyllis married Harry M. Peterson on August 29, 1946, in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Woodbine for 40 years. Phyllis substitute taught in Woodbine. Phyllis and Harry managed apartment complexes in Des Moines and Little Rock, Arkansas for five years. They then moved to Onawa, Iowa for 11 years before moving to the Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City in 2001. Phyllis was a former member of the First Christian Church in Woodbine and the Community of Christ in Woodbine. She was active with the ladies groups at the churches. Phyllis loved to sew, cook and garden. Phyllis died January 26, 2007, in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 82 years and 28 days. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry Peterson on February 23, 2004; and a sister, Helen Welter. She is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Jim) Soetmelk of Greybull, Wyoming and Judy (Terry) Hamer of Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Andrea (Mike) Laird of Greybull, Wyoming, David (Jill) Soetmelk of Greybull, Wyoming, Emily Hamer of Creede, Colorado and Andrew (Theresa) Hamer of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; three great grandchildren, Brendon and Brianna Laird and Desiree Young; brothers, Charles & Dorothy Hildreth, Warren & Martha Hildreth, Arlan & JoAnn Hildreth, Bernard & Doris Hildreth, Russell & Connie Hildreth, Billy Joe & Dorothy Hildreth and Royce & Elaine Hildreth; sisters, Neva & Estal Hinkel, Janece Connery and Sandy Tucker and many other relatives and friends.
