Burial will be in the Vail Cemetery. Florence Miller-Dorland died on Wednesday, January 24th, 2007 in Woodbine. Survivors include her husband Art; 2 sons, Roger Miller (Joy) of Missouri Valley and Lyle Miller (Jeanette) of Chehalis, WA. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 30th, 2007 at the Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. Florence Eula Miller-Dorland was born August 11, 1913, to Henry and Grace (Goule) Brockelsby in Vail, Iowa. Upon her high school graduation she went on to nurses training. Florence married Leslie H. Miller on February 23, 1932. The family lived in the Denison and Vail area until 1960 at which time they moved to Dunlap. At that time, Florence worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Dunlap Nursing Home. She made Dunlap her home until the time of Les' death in 1989. Florence then moved to Woodbine. She met Arthur Dorland and the couple was married on September 6, 1998. The two enjoyed attending the Presbyterian Church on Sundays, traveling to visit family, and spending time together. Florence always had her door open to family and friends, and she welcomed the challenge of adding one more. As those who knew her well can attest, she spent many hours quilting for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. Florence also enjoyed time spent with the ladies at the Golden Age Center in Woodbine. Florence was a devoted grandmother and spent quality time with each of her seven grandchildren; Jeff, Tammy, Shelly, Sherry, Jennifer, Janelle and Jason. Florence enjoyed playing cards and checkers. Florence died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 93 years, five months, and 13 days. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Leslie; son, Harold; and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband Arthur Dorland of Woodbine, Iowa; two sons, Lyell (Jeanette) Miller of Chehalis, Washington, Roger (Joy) Miller of Missouri Valley, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Jeff Miller, Zac Zuber, Wyatt Zuber, Jason Miller, Shae Miller-Benson and Kaige Bryant. Pallbearers were LeRoy Brockelsby, Rick Brockelsby, Rich Caldwell, Jeremy Crozier, Glenn Smith and Scott Spencer. Florence's final resting place is in the Vail Cemetery in Vail, Iowa. The Fouts Funeral Home of Woodbine was in charge of the arrangements.
