He was born April 14, 1917 in Harrison County to the late John Sr. and Anna Urbahns Zolck. John graduated from Minden High School and served in the US Army from 1942-1945. John and Rita Ring were married in May of 1941 at St. Patricks Church, Neola, Iowa. John worked for Gate City Steel for ten years, Vickers as a machinist. Memberships included St. Patricks Church, Neola, American Legion Post #2 for 62 years, VFW and the 40's Dance Club. John is preceded in death by wife, Rita in 1991; sisters, Ella Hoeppner, Elsie Allen, Edna and Edith Zolck; brother, Albert Zolck. Survivors include daughter, Jan Boan and husband Gary, of Milford, Kan.; son, Dennis Zolck and wife Nancy, of Arlington, Neb.; very special friend Louise Mencke, of Blair, Neb.; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. A Wake Service Sunday 6:30 p.m. Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 10 a.m. St. Patricks Church, Neola. Interment Neola, Iowa. Luncheon to follow at St. Patricks Church Hall. Father Raphael Masabakhwa Celebrant. Military rites tendered by American Legion.
