The Veteran's book joins a new book (new since last Memorial Day) which alphabetically lists all the burials in the entire cemetery. The books are inside a new, weather proof box mounted on a pole at the south of the main (center) entrance to the cemetery. It is a very nice addition to the cemetery and very handy for anyone who knows the name of someone who is buried here but is not sure of which block they are in. The burial book plot listing follows the official way of listing the plots. The Veteran's book lists the same block numbers, but the rows and gravesite numbers are different the rows are counted from west to east and the gravesites are counted from north to south. The Veteran's Directory is the result of a Boy Scout Eagle Project, with all the members of the Boy Scout Troop at that time assisting with finding ! the Veteran's graves and counting the rows and gravesite numbers. At that time, the "official" way of counting them was confusing to the boys, so the leaders simplified the process and have continued each year when updating the Veteran's list. So, if someone knows a name of a Veteran, but not the Block number, they can consult the Burial list, find the Block number and then look in the Veteran's list to find the row and gravesite number. The Veteran's Directory is used each year by the Boy Scouts to put out the small crosses with poppy attached and the small American flag. The Scouts do this as a community service project each year for the Legion and Legion Auxiliary. This is a big undertaking, but rewarding and a way for the Scouts to remember those who have served their country. It also makes for a beautiful sight with all the little flags and white crosses and even more impressive when viewed with the Legion Avenue of Flags (a big undertaking for the Legion and other vol! unteers). As with any big project, there can be mistakes and omissions . If anyone knows of a Veteran who is not on the list or doesn't have the Legion marker or cross and flag, please contact Joyce Cogdill or Jan Roberts to get everything rectified.
