He received his elementary education at St. Boniface in Westphalia, Iowa, and later graduated from St. Paul's High School in Defiance, Iowa. Before furthering his education, Francis worked for a hatchery and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also instrumental in establishing a basketball program at St. Michael's Catholic School in Harlan, which he coached for several years. Francis then continued his education at Loras College, Mount St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa and St. Procopious Seminary in Lisle, Ill. He was ordained a priest on May 23, 1964, at St. Cecelia's Cathedral in Omaha, Neb., by Archbishop G. T. Bergan. Father Reid joined the Diocese of Crookston in Minnesota in 1964, and began serving as an Associate Pastor at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. He further served the following parishes: St. Philip's in Bemidji;! St. Rose of Lima in Argyle; St. Bernard's in Thief River Falls; St. Clement's in Grygla; St. Anne's in Goodridge; St. Ann's in Waubun; and as Pastor of St. John's in Ackley; Immaculate Conception in Nevis; St. Theodore's in Laporte; St. Michael's in Mahnomen; Immaculate Conception in Bejou; St. Peter's in Park Rapids; St. Mary's in Two Inlets; St. Theodore in Ponsford; St. Catherine's in Itasca Park, and retiring in July of 1992. He spent his retirement years at Little Man Trap Lake, rural Park Rapids, and Mahnomen. Throughout his life, Father Reid served the Lord and performed various works of charity. He entered the Twin Valley Living Center in December of 2005, where he died on Sunday, April 15, 2007. Father Reid was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rita Weihs; brothers, Christopher, Delbert, Malvern, Joseph, William, and Clarence. He is survived by one sister, Yvonne (Donald) Whannell; a brother-in-law, Louis Weihs; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christi! an Burial was held Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mic hael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, Minn. Presider was Bishop Victor Balke. Homilist was Father Rick Lambert and con-celebrants were priests of The Diocese of Crookston. Pianist Brenda Sorensen accompanied song leader Jan Rau. Pallbearers were Philip Schiller, Jr. Anthony Szymczak Leo Kueber, Robert Jirik Ted Johnson, Donald Dittman, Bill Proudfoot, Jerome Biessener, Alyn Kueber. Mass of Christian Burial was held in Harlan, Iowa, Thursday, April 19, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Robert Hoefler as presider. Homilist was Father Rick Lambert and con-celebrant was Father Dan Petsche, OSB. Keyboardist was John Rosman and vocalist was Jan Rau. Interment was made at Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa. Arrangements were made by Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen, Minn., with assistance from Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa.
