Sally was born on March 13, 1922 on the family homestead outside of Defiance, Iowa, to Henry J. Eckermann and Hilda Heinzelmeir Eckermann. She was the oldest of three daughters. Sally attended grade school and high school at St. Paul's Catholic School in Defiance, and graduated in the spring of 1940. After graduation she attended the Commercial Extension School of Business in Omaha, Neb., and then returned to Defiance to help with the family business. On January 20, 1942, Sally was joined in marriage to Cecil Allstot of Defiance, Iowa. The couple wed in San Antonio, Texas, due to Cecil having been drafted into the U.S. Army. Sally worked at the Duncan Air Field in San Antonio until Cecil left for military duty overseas. While Cecil was away Sally lived with her sister-in-law in Sheridan, Wyo. Upon Cecil's discharge from the Army, they returned to Defiance and worked the family farm for a couple of years, then moved to Missouri Valley to venture into business with Cecil's brother. Unfortunately, Sally's father fell ill and the couple returned to the family farm. This was their residence until 1969, when they moved into town. Sally was the assistant manager of her retirement community in Harlan, Iowa, for approximately nine years before moving to Dunlap in 2001. Sally enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, completing crossword puzzles and playing cards. She had a love of music and a gift of playing the piano and organ by ear. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one grandson. She is survived by four children, Cecil Anne Sextro (Dave) of Belmond, Iowa, William Lee (Karen) of Burlington Jct., Mo., Betty Jean Kimmen (Larry) of Dunlap, Iowa, and James Edward (Kathie) of Lincoln, Neb.; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lasi! lla Stephenson of Stillwater, Minn., and Ruth Barker of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa, Saturday, April 21, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Paul Strittmatter, SJ and Deacon Marvin Klein as con celebrants. Musicians were Marilyn Grote and St. Patrick's Choir. Interment was made at Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa. Honorary pallbearers were Susan Oberg, Sheri Heilmen, Beth Namanny, Stacie Kimmen-Burke, Kay Lahr, Sarah Harm, Sherry Porsch. Pallbearers were Jacqueline Allstot, Ryan Sextro, Jessica Allstot, Steve Oberg, Carl Heilmen, Mike Namanny, Joe Burke, Dave Lahr, Brent Harm. Fouts Funeral Home of Dunlap was in charge of arrangements.
