(Joe) Richardson, 78, retired Missouri Valley banker, died Nov. 8 at Longview Home. Joe was born Jan. 4, 1926 in Modale to David A. and Pearl M. (Olinger) Richardson. Joe attended Modale grade school and then Mondamin High School. At the age of 17, Joe entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on board the USS Gatling in the Pacific Theater and was in heavy combat. The Gatling assisted in a convoy with the USS Missouri as it entered Tokyo Bay, Japan for the signing of the armistice ending the war. After his military service, Joe went to the Sioux City barber College in 1947. He was married to Marian Anderson, June 25, 1949 in Mondamin. Joe owned and operated a barber shop in Mondamin, then in Modale, and later, in Missouri Valley, until 1963, when the family moved to Millbrae, Calif. In 1965, they moved back to Missouri Valley where Joe worked for the First National Bank. He retired as a vice president, Feb. 4, 1988. Joe and Marian had been married for 55 years. Joe was a former Missouri Valley School Board member, charter member of the Lions Club, and a member of the Logan-Mo. Valley Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and walking to talk to his friends and business associates. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; son Gary in 1977; and brothers and sisters, Harold, Carl, Don, Mary, Margaret and Paul. Survivors include: his wife, Marian, Missouri Valley; daughter, Liz Poore and her husband, James, Logan; grandchildren, Lisa Emswiler and her husband, Rick, Missouri Valley; Dindy Voster and her husband, Dan, Missouri Valley; Clint Cunard, Phoenix, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Harper and Grady Emswiler; nieces, nephews and many friends. Visitation with the family will be held today (Friday, Nov. 12) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, Missouri Valley. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Robert H. Kruempel, officiant. Casket bearers will be Dennis Walsh, Rick Emswiler, Dean Dewaele, Jack Winther, Dan Voster and Bob Terry. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Missouri Valley. Military Honors will be conducted by Julius F. Muller Post No. 337, American Legion, Missouri V! alley. The family would like to invite everyone for lunch and reminiscing at the Logan-Mo.
