Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA December 28th, 2004 Joyce "Charlene" Purcell, 77, of Essex died Dec. 26 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. (http://bannerads.zwire.com/bannerads/redirect.cfm?ADLOCATION=4000&PAG=461&BRD=2554) She was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Little Sioux. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School. She lived in Council Bluffs from 1946-1994, moving to Essex 10 years ago. Charlene and husband, Dick, owned and operated the A&W Restaurant on West Broadway for 20 years. She also taught art classes for many years in Council Bluffs. Charlene was past president of the Council Bluffs Artist Association. She was a charter member of the Business & Professional Women of Council Bluffs and instrumental in starting Fantasmagoric in Bayliss Park. Mrs. Purcell and her husband, Orris "Dick," were married 58 years. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Holsapple, and brother, Don Jensen. Survivors in addition to her husband include son, Randy, and wife, Charolette, of Council Bluffs; grandson, Jason Purcell, of Omaha; granddaughter, Karen Hamilton, and husband, Eric, of Council Bluffs; great-grandsons, Cody Hamilton and Jacob Hamilton. Memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with Bishop Gary Smith of Latter Day Saints Kanesville Ward officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
