Thompson was born July 31, 1919, in Papillion, Neb., to Avery and Rose (Cooper) Thompson. He grew up in Papillion and graduated from Papillion High School. He then attended business school and went on to manage grain elevators in Iowa. He managed the Thompson Elevator in Dunlap for 20 years, then moved on to manage elevators in Manning, Schaller and Correctionville, Iowa. On February 6, 1943, Clarence married Dorothy Wahl in Lindenwood, Ill. Clarence served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He was in the India/Burma/China Theater including two years in India in medical supply. He received a Bronze Star. Clarence was a kind and caring man always helping others. He was very active in his church, a volunteer at Lutheran Camp Okoboji, AAL, and Siouxland Mended Heart. Clarence and Dorothy both loved to garden, fish, play cards, camp, travel and be with family and friends. Dorothy died on February 15, 2003. Clarence died on Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Three Links Care Center in Norfield, Minn., attaining the age of 85 years, four months, and two days. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Ward, Art, Earl, and Don; and one sister, Helen Talbert. He is survived by three children, Beverly and her husband Don Schrader of Cheyenne, Wyo., Betty and her husband Dean Grotjohn of Apple Valley, Minn., Jene Thompson and his wife Dot of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Bonsall of Dunlap, Iowa, Rosemary and her husband Butch Jacobsen of Papillion, Neb.; two brothers, Jack and his wife Carol of Henderson, Nev., Avery Thompson and his wife Verna of Dunlap, Iowa; four sisters-in-law, Lois Thompson of Dunlap, Iowa, Grace Thompson of Papillion, Neb., Darlene Thompson of Dunlap, Iowa, and Delores Wahl of Rockford, Ill.; brother-in-law, Art Wahl of Florida; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services w! ere held Monday morning, December 6, 2004 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City at 10 a.m. with Rev. Gordon Buchholz officiating. Musician was Sherry Ketelsen, trumpeter was Sander Grotjohn and vocalist Karen Berg sang "Abide With Me." Military graveside rites were provided by Dunlap American Legion Post #224 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap. Honorary pall bearers were Eddie Favors, Deena Grotjohn, Megan Schrader, Chris Thompson.
