My Grandmother Pearl, was a Fountain and her mother's parents were Rockwells. Her sisters were Grace Maguire & Ina Foutch. Her brothers were Lyle, Lee, Earl & Lester Fountain. All of them were born northeast of Hardscratch, east of Maguire's farm. She married Charles Maguire and after his death married Albert Holman. Perhaps you remember Albert & Grandma as they lived south of you around the bend where Emswiller now lives - the place with the old red barn that leans to the south. He bought the place from Grandma when Albert died in 1968. Grandma was known for her white cats. I spent many summers up there in the 50's & 60's. I have very fond memories of the area. I have not found any pictures of Hardscratch either but know a lot of stories about the place. Did you know that there is another cemetery up on the hill that was on the Jim Foutch place. The graves arent't marked but they were up in a field there. Albert & my uncle Donald both told me about them. Albert said no one knew who was buried there but that there were sunken graves with no markers up there. They might be gone now that the land is terraced.
