Nina was born on July 22, 1918, in Magnolia, to Irene and Jim Chambers. After high school graduation, she married Carroll Barsby. Later, her oldest son Michael was born, and the family moved to Oregon, where Margaret Ann (Peggy), Steve, and Dave were born. Nina's family lived in Junction City and Portland, and later in Eugene as her children finished high school. Nina's first marriage ended in 1955, and in 1958 she married Jack Sorensen. That marriage later ended and Nina chose to live alone in Salem before settling in Silverton, a town she grew to love. She obtained her real estate brokers' and insurance licenses in Junction City. While in Silverton she taught ESL at Chemeketa Community College, and volunteered at and supported the Silverton Art Association. Nina was preceded in death by her son David. She is survived by brother Dale and his wife, Noni, St. George, Utah; brother, Duane, Springfield, Ore.; son, Michael, who lives in Wichita, Kan., with his wife Rose; by daughter, Peggy, who lives in Olympia, Wash.; by son, Steve, who lives in Cary, N. C., with his wife, Helen Tack; and by adopted son, John Jacob. She has eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service was held Nov. 6 at the Silverton Art Association, Silverton Ore. Interment was private. Nina previously had requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in her name to the Silverton Art Association, 303 Coolidge St., Silverton, OR 97381, for young artist scholarships.
