Fern was born Nov. 13, 1918 in Missouri Valley to Clarence and Mary (Cleaver) Yager. She attended Nettlebend Country School and Missouri Valley High School, graduating with the Class of 1936. Fern was married to Robert R. Scebold, April 8, 1939 in Missouri Valley. She was a homemaker and life-long resident of Harrison County until entering the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair in 2001. For many years, she enjoyed needle point, crocheting and crafts. Fern was very active in her church-related activities, including helping to found the Christian Woman's Association in this area. She was a member of the Gideon's International Auxiliary, a Sunday School teacher, Awana leader, and an avid reader. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Lester Yager, and her oldest son, C. Edward Scebold. Survivors include: her husband, Robert, residing in Blair; daughter, Eleanor Buerstetta of New Jersey; son, Richard and his wife, Jonetta, Missouri Valley; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Claire Mace, Missouri Valley; and brother, Raleigh Yager of Indiana. Funeral Services were held at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, Missouri Valley, Nov. 10, Pastor John Hill and Pastor Dwight Oswald, officiants. Honorary bearers were: Pat Kenyon, Gilbert Meade, Grant Buerstetta, Bill Braesch, and Timothy Hague. Casket bearers were Dan Scebold, Roger Meade, Duane Meade, Fred Kenyon, Chad Scebold, and Aaron Buerstetta. Interment was in Rose Hill Memorial Garden, Missouri Valley.
