Mildred was born April 5, 1922, in Mondamin, to David Samuel and Margaret Clara (Fox) Rife. She attended the Mondamin School. Mildred helped out at home and with many of the area families with housework and childcare. March 4, 1944, she married John Russell in Omaha. They were blessed with one son, David. The couple lived in Omaha for a while before returning to Mondamin. John died October 16, 1954. Mildred married Clarence Shepard September 23, 1957, in Colberson, Neb. They were blessed with two daughters, Kimberly and Carrie. Mildred cleaned the bank and church for many years. Mildred was a lifetime member of the Mondamin United Methodist Church, and she was a member of the Royal Neighbors and the Mondamin American Legion Auxiliary. She was the secretary/treasurer for Sunday school program for many years. She loved to garden and bake Christmas cookies, noodles, and apple pies. Mildred's life was centered around her family and her church. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers, Harold (Bus), Leo, William, Lester, David (Junior), Maurice, Everett, James and Eddie Rife; three sisters, Helen Forbes, Opal Creasman, and Clara Rife. She is survived by her husband Clarence, son David and his wife Marti, Oak Harbor, Wash.; daughters Kimberly Shepard, Mondamin; Carrie and her husband Randy Wohlers, Mondamin; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Rounds, Carson; Lois Stevens, Mondamin; and Mary Lockling, Mondamin; brother, Kenneth Rife and his wife Bev, Mondamin; sister-in-law, Florine Rife, Modale; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held Jan. 6 at the United Methodist Church, Mondamin, Rev. Dee Ann Klapp, officiant. Musician was Bruce Norris. Honorary Pall Bearers were: Cindy Cook, Michele Wedemeyer, Denise Stewart, David J. Russell, Mark Russell, Christine Graves, Lyndsie Wohlers, and Skylyr Wohlers. Pall Bearers were: Bill Rounds, Gail Rife, Short Rife, Gary St! evens, Terry Rife, Mike Lockling, Dave Rife, and Chuck Creasman. Interment was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery, rural Pisgah.
