    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HENDERSON, REEDER, ETC. ETC. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0k.2ADE/2083.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I noticed the exchange of comments about "Hardscratch" which was located in Harrison Co. IA and thought it sounded familiar. I have been researching my HENDERSON family for years and in doing so I have acquired quite a bit of info on the Henderson families that lived in the area. I have copies of two photo's which refer to Hardscratch or Reeder's Mills as it was also called. One photo shows a Frank Dickinson standing beside a road sign for Hardscatch. It accompanies an article by Scott Monserud apparently a Summer News Intern. The article tells a pretty good story of Hardscratch or Reeder's Mills. The other picture shows a cluster of houses along a road and is entitled "Here's Hard Scratch... Or thereit was" it apparently came from the Iowa News, Omaha, Thur April 23, 1953. It also is accompantied by an article by James Denney a World-Hearld Staff Member entitled "It's Still Listed on Map as Hard Scratch, But town Near Logan Was Never Platted". it also gives a general history of the area. Several sons of James Henderson moved from Greene Co, IL and lived in the area. The name Reeder's Mills apparently came from a brother-in-law, Levi Reeder who's two sons Thomas and William Reeder ran a mill business there. Be happy to exchange any information!
