Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA Jan 4th, 2005 MISSOURI VALLEY - Donald William Schrum, 84, of Missouri Valley died Dec. 31 at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha. Donald was born July 3, 1920, in Manning to William and Alice (Kroger) Schrum. He was married to Vernie Long. He was in the United States Army from 1940-1945. He worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a train dispatcher for thirty years. Don was involved in many organizations, including Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Past State Commander, Masonic Lodge (serving two terms as Master), Abu Bakr Shrine, Royal Arch Mason past High Priest, member of the United Methodist Church, Missouri Valley Fire & Rescue (retired), and he loved doing his volunteer work at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha. Survivors include his son, Randall, and wife, Katherine, of Ft. Calhoun, Neb.; grandsons, Karl and Aaron Schrum of Ft. Calhoun; and one sister, Jean Rathfon of Sealengrove, Pa. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley with visitation to follow. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Missouri Valley.
