Wilcox, 94 April 05, 2004 Longtime Missouri Valley High School mentor Sidney E. Wilcox, 94, Missouri Valley, died March 24 at Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital. Sidney was born Oct. 31, 1909, in Bradshaw, Neb., to Hugh and Etta (Shick) Wilcox. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, Council Bluffs, and attended Simpson College, Indianola; and the University of South Dakota, where he earned his master's degree in music. Sidney married Evelyn Bork, June 4, 1936, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He taught school in Hamburg, College Springs, Paulina and Carroll systems, before moving to Missouri Valley in 1950. He taught at MVHS until his retirement. Sidney was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Missouri Valley; Valley Lodge, AF & AM, Order of the Eastern Star and was a Shriner. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982. Survivors include his daughter, Sydney Jackson and her husband, George, Modale; son, Arnold Wilcox and his wife, Geraldine, Ralston, Neb.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jocquina Wilcox, Council Bluffs; and Roberta Wilcox, Broomfield, Colo. A Masonic Service was held March 28 at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, Missouri Valley, with family visitation following. Funeral Services were held March 29 at the funeral home, Pastor Bob Dagit, officiant. Organist was Genelle Riesland. Honorary bearers were William Lundeen and Ed Pitt. Casket bearers were Ray Pike, Alan Guern, George Winther, Hugh Wilcox, Kenton Wilcox, and Justin Gochenour. Interment was in Ridgewood Cemetery, Council Bluffs.
