Smith, Sr., 76 May 26, 2004 Robert L. (Smitty) Smith, Sr., 76, Valparaiso, Ind., died April 27 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. Robert was born on March 11, 1928 in Missouri Valley, to Charles A. and Pansy C. (Hathaway) Smith. He worked 37 years at GTE as a supervisor in the cable splicing division, retiring in 1991. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. November 28, 1982, Robert married Lori J. Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert L. Smith, Jr.; three sisters; one brother;and a niece, Amber Howard.. Survivors include: his wife, Lori; daughter, Stephani Smith, Valparaiso, Ind.; son, Mark and his wife, Karen, Smith, Paris, Ill.;, two grandchildren, Kaela and Bret; father-in-law, James W. Howard; sister-in-law, Lynn and her husband, Bob, Howard; a niece, Dana Howard; and also nieces and nephews in the Missouri Valley and Council Bluffs areas.. Funeral Services were held Friday, April 30 at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, Ind. Cremation followed at Angelcrest Crematory, Valparaiso.
