Dowd, 88 May 04, 2004 Irene A. Doud, 88, Kearney, Neb. died April 20 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney. She was born March 4, 1916 in Missouri Valley to Sigurt and Alta (Wells) Nelson. She grew up in the Missouri Valley area and also received her education here. Irene was united in marriage to Paul A. Doud, April 7, 1979 in Kearney, Neb., where the couple made their home and she was employed by Head Start. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Kearney; Senior Citizens Center; and the Eagles Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, bingo, fishing, and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters. Survivors include; her husband, Paul, Kearney; son, Don Sturek and his wife, Connie, El Cajon, Calif.; daughters, Joan Miller and her husband, Leo, Hazard, Neb.; Carlene Warren and her husband, Bob, Phoenix, Ariz.; Patricia Shearer and her husband, Willie; and Dorene Sandstrom and her husband, Kent, all of Kearney; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Dick Nelson, Irwin; sisters, Martha Jasperson, Missouri Valley; and Fran Hogan, Stillwater, Okla. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., today (Friday, April 23) at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home, Kearney, and continue one hour prior to service times. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 24, at the funeral home, the Rev. Dr. Marvin Koelling, officiant. Interment will be at Riverdale Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
