He was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa. Kirk was a student at Boyer Valley High School in Dunlap. He loved sports and participated in baseball, football, basketball, track and golf. He loved to spend time with his friends. Kirk died on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident reaching the age of 15 years, eight months, and 16 days. Kirk was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Doris Sturgill and his aunt, Joyce Kelley. Those survivors left to cherish the loving memory of Kirk are his parents, Dana and Susan Sturgill of Dunlap; two brothers, Chris and Casey Sturgill of Dunlap; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Rita Kelley of Woodbine; paternal grandfather, Dennis Sturgill of Council Bluffs; aunts and uncles, Marvin Kelley and his wife Patty, Paul Kelley and his wife Tracy all of Woodbine, Nancy and her husband Steve Hupp of Scranton, Norma and her husband Martin Houston of Broomfield, Colo., Cindy and her husband Jerry Stessman of Dunlap, and Sheila and her husband Bill Bonner of Omaha, Neb.; cousins; and other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap Saturday, May 15, 2004 at 10 a.m. Clergy included Rev. Paul Strittmatter, Deacon Marvin Klein, Pastor Carla Ingebretsen and Rev. Judy Deweber. Musicians were Marilyn Grote and Lauri Boysen. Vocalists were Jerry Baldwin and Katie Schaben. Interment was made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Dunlap. Honorary pallbearers were Chris Sturgill, Casey Sturgill, Boyer Valley Teammates, Boyer Valley Coaches, and all of Kirk's friends. Pallbearers were Marvin Kelley, Paul Kelley, Jerry Stessman, Myron Mo Barry, Glen Leaders, Jim Schaben, Jr. Arrangements were handled by Fouts Funeral Home of Dunlap.
