Micek, 83 May 21, 2004 Elmer J. Micek, 83, formerly of Columbus, Neb., died May 9 at Alegent Health Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha. Elmer J. Micek was born May 25, 1920 in Bolivar, Mo. to Charles and Anna (Siemek) Micek. He attended District 30 School in Boone County and Cedar Rapids (Neb.) High School. Elmer served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II from March 1941 to December 31,1945. While in the Service he played in the U.S. Army band. May 25, 1944 he was united in marriage to Leona McGuire at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Neb. The couple made their home in Columbus where Elmer worked at Columbus Skelgas and Columbus Grain Company before becoming the manager of the Bellwood Co-op until his retirement in 1984. Elmer enjoyed music and was a member of the Bobby Mills Orchestra. He also was leader of the El Mills Orchestra. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Hartman Post No. 484, American Legion, Columbus Fire Department, played in the Community Band and served two terms on the Columbus City Council. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, Edward, Karl, Leonard, Raymond, Robert, Theodore and Thomas Micek; Sisters, Marge Gloor, Clare Jacobi, Vici Krings and Ann Schuele. He is survived by his wife, Leona Micek, Missouri Valley; son, Tom Micek (Superintendent of Missouri Valley Schools) and his wife, Maize, Missouri Valley; daughter, Kathleen Miller and her husband, Dennis, Omaha; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Micek, Columbus, Neb.; sister-in-law, Rose Micek, Cedar Rapids, Neb.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 13 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Columbus, Rev. Fr. Tom Weisbecker, officiant. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post No. 84, American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to St. Bonaventure Church or the American Diabetes Association. McKown Funeral Home, Columbus, Neb. was in charge of arrangements.
