    2. Daily Nonpareil Council Bluffs IA Aug 11th, 2004 The funeral for Robert D. Royer, 78, of Council Bluffs will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. David Erickson, senior pastor, officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Mr. Royer died Aug. 9 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital of natural causes. He was born March 31, 1926, in Woodbine to Clarence and Edna (Houghton) Royer and graduated from Woodbine High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and moved to Council Bluffs in 1954. He was chief of the Mail Pay Bureau for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked for 39 years before his retirement in July 1987. He was a member of First Christian Church, the South Omaha Eagles Club, U.P. Oldtimers and Green Meadows Park Association. Mr. Royer and his wife, Kathleen (Boone), had been married since Sept. 27, 1951. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Mark and wife, Helen, of Austin, Texas, and John of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, twin sister Betty Thomas and husband, William, of Missouri Valley, Katherine Adams of Omaha and Carolyn Babl and husband, Walter, of Mapleton; a brother, Lynn Royer and wife, Jean, of Woodbine; three granddaughters, Renee, Lydia and Heather Royer; nieces; and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Burial will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Woodbine Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Woodbine American Legion post. Memorials may be offered to the First Christian Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer's Association.
