Funeral services were held March 13, 2007 at the Followers of Christ Church in Woodbine with Elders Royl Roden and Danny Mefferd officiating. Musicians were Jane Roden and Lou Waite. Vocalist Rick Powell sang, "On Eagle's Wings" and "How Great Thou Art." Herb's Girls sang, "In the Garden." Pall bearers were Brian Ganzhorn, Greg Ganzhorn, Jeff Kuhl, Kevin Ganzhorn, Andrew Cohrs, Jared Cohrs, Dave Hamblen and Bobby Brummer. Military graveside service was by Weiss Post #143. Final resting place was the Woodbine Cemetery. Herb was born August 14, 1916 in rural Logan to Claus and Minnie (Bay) Cohrs. He attended Allen #8 Country School and Woodbine High School. He was active in football, baseball, boxing and was an FFA member. Herb graduated in 1935. He then farmed the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1942. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Herb married Audrey Marshall on June 26, 1949, at the R.L.D.S. Church in Moorhead. The couple then farmed Herb's family farm. Herb also measured land and sealed corn with the ASCS office. He lived on the family farm his entire life except for the four years he was in the service, and he continued to farm up until his death. Herb was baptized in the RLDS Church in 1927. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1956 and proudly served this office the rest of his life. He was a member of the Followers of Christ Restoration Branch. Herb was on the RLDS and Followers of Christ building committees and was treasurer of the church. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He also helped any and every stray dog by giving it a home. Herb was a director of Allen #8 Country School and an Allen Township Trustee for 50 plus years. He was a county committee man, served on the election board and the Woodbine Youth Center Board and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing in Canada. The family farm was given the Century Farm recognition in 2003. Herb was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Ronald Cohrs in 1951; one brother, Elmer Cohrs; three half brothers, William, James, and Clarence Hatcher; and three half sisters, Pearl Hamer, Betty Jones, Berniece Goetsche. Survivors include his wife Audrey Cohrs of Logan; three children David (Becky) Cohrs of Woodbine, Mary (Kirk) Kersten of Logan, Bev (Scott) Ganzhorn of Woodbine; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ann Cohrs of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends.
