Clergy was Rev. Ron Keith with music by Mrs. Merrill McElwain and Andrea Schicilone. Selections were "Amazing Grace" and "The Lord's Prayer." Pall bearers were Anthony Byrd, Aaron Morhain, Christopher Morhain, Nathan Morhain, Ken Morhain and Mark Byrd. A military graveside service was given by Weiss Post #143. Final resting place is in Woodbine Cemetery, Woodbine. Jay Alvin Runyan was born June 19, 1933, to Grace (Mills) and Jay Liston Runyan in Woodbine. Jay attended country school and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1952. Jay married Joann Nuzum on Sept. 17, 1955, and they made their home in Omaha, Neb. Two weeks later Jay was drafted into the Army. After Jay's honorable discharge the couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa where Jay was an ambulance driver. He then went to work for the Swift Packing Plant. In 1969, they moved to Grand Island, Neb. And continued his employment with Swift before transferring to Omaha in 1979. Jay retired from Swift in 1993. Jay worked part time at the post office, Shopko and Tufty's Car Place. Jay was a member of Faith Christian Church in Omaha and the Millard American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and reading. He also loved to play cards and travel. Jay died on Mon., March 12, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 73 years, eight months and 21 days. Jay was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Vicky Runyan on Nov. 15, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Joann Runyan of Omaha; three daughters, Kathy and her husband Ken Morhain of Anchorage, Alaska, Cindy Runyan of Council Bluffs, and Kim and her husband Mark Byrd of Omaha; five grandchildren, Aaron, Christopher and Nathan Morhain, Anthony and Kari Byrd and Alyssa Byrd; four sisters, Mary Ann Matteson of Harlan, Iowa, Merrill Runyan of Council Bluffs, Eva Lou and her husband Larry Meyers of Burlington, Iowa and Evelyn Hunsader of Minnepolis, Minn.; brother Vernon Runyan of Cherokee, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
