Irene Engen Feb. 27, 1913 - March 7, 2007 ©MISSOURI VALLEY TIMES - NEWS 03/15/2007 E. Irene Hanson, 94, Onawa, formerly of Little Sioux, died March 7, 2007 at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa. Irene was born Feb. 27, 1913 at Moorhead, the youngest child of Ole and Hulda (Moen) Engen. The family moved to Little Sioux, where Irene lived most of her life. She married Augustus (Doug) Hanson, Oct. 16, 1941 at Rock Port, Mo. and the couple farmed their Century Farm near Little Sioux for over 57 years. After Doug's death, March 12, 1999, Irene entered Elmwood Care Centre. Irene was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was an excellent homemaker. She loved to cook, bake cakes, garden and travel. In addition to her husband, Doug, she was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, three nieces and two nephews. Survivors include: her nieces, Dorothy (Dolly) John, Missouri Valley; Peggy Berg, Plymouth, Minn.; Leone Benedickt, Dunlap; nephews, Charles Hanson, Little Sioux and Kenneth Engen, Omaha; sis! ters-in-law, Eva Engen, Modale; Nielsine Gehrke, Onawa; many great-nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 11, at Rush Family Care Service, Onawa. A Prayer Service will begin at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 12, at First Lutheran Church, Missouri Valley, Pastor Ray Smith, officiant.
